HighGrain Taproom & Kitchen Brewpub blends sustainability, history, and hospitality into a neighborhood destination that feels both rooted and refreshingly modern. Its original location is near Kenwood Mall inside the historic Silverton Memorial Municipal Building.

Built in 1951, the structure was among the state’s early mixed-use municipal buildings, housing township administration, police, firefighters, and emergency response teams. Today, that civic legacy continues in a new form—community-centered brewing.

Now equipped with 33 solar panels, the renovated mid-century building preserves the charm of a traditional neighborhood landmark while functioning as a modern brewery and restaurant committed to energy efficiency. Outside, electric vehicle charging stations maintained by Electrada allow guests to recharge their cars while enjoying a meal, underscoring the brewery’s sustainability focus.

A wheelchair-accessible front porch welcomes passersby and encourages connection. The beer garden features native Ohio perennials planted in partnership with the Cincinnati Nature Center, reinforcing HighGrain’s environmental stewardship.

On the evening of our visit, the taproom buzzed with activity while maintaining a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere. Staff members were attentive without hovering, checking in regularly, and offering thoughtful guidance on the beer list. The tone was down-to-earth and easygoing—an ideal setting for sampling a flight.

That flight paired perfectly with three warm, soft pretzel sticks served alongside smooth, house-made beer cheese. The pretzels arrived fluffy and lightly salted, while the beer cheese was rich and velvety, striking a satisfying balance between indulgence and restraint.

HighGrain’s beer descriptions are refreshingly straightforward, reflecting its core philosophy: good beer, good food, and good company. The description for Monarch, a Juicy IPA, read “Hoppy, citrus, and refreshing,” and proved spot on. Hazy and medium gold, it opens with a bright citrus aroma and delivers a citrus-forward flavor with mild bitterness and lively carbonation. Approachable yet distinctive, it’s an easy addition to any flight.

Next was Selene, a Belgian Witbier (white beer). Pale gold and cloudy, this wheat beer offers a smooth blend of citrus and spice with a subtle earthy undertone. The finish is light and dry, leaving a clean aftertaste that invites another sip before you realize the glass is nearly empty.

Isar Nacht, a Dunkelweiss described as “Malty, rich, and smooth,” pours hazy and mahogany brown. True to its traditional German style, it offers layered malt depth and a rounded, silky texture. The richness is evident without becoming heavy, making it a balanced, darker option within the lineup.

The final sample was Isar Weiss, a “Delicate, smooth, subtle” Bavarian Hefeweizen. Dark golden and hazy, it maintains the easy drinkability typical of the style. Smooth on the palate, it leaves a pleasant finish that lingers just long enough to appreciate its nuances.

The food menu complements the beer list without overcomplicating things. The All-American burger arrived topped with lettuce, tomato, mayo, onion, and American cheese, accompanied by a generous serving of crisp, tender fries. It’s a classic done right—juicy, flavorful, and satisfying. Vegetarian options and gluten-free buns are available.

Equally appealing, the Pulled Pork Sandwich features house-smoked pork topped with Carolina Gold BBQ sauce and coleslaw. The tangy, mustard-based sauce pairs seamlessly with the smoky meat, and like the burger, it comes with fries. The kitchen clearly understands brewpub staples: comforting, well-executed dishes designed to enhance the beer experience.

HighGrain’s loyalty program awards one point for every dollar spent, with 100 points equal to $5 off—a simple, practical incentive for regulars. The brewery also hosts large parties and events, further reinforcing its community-driven identity.

HighGrain Taproom & Kitchen Brewpub succeeds by staying true to its mission—expertly brewed, highly drinkable beers paired with satisfying food in a setting that honors its historic roots while embracing environmental responsibility. In Silverton, the former municipal building once served the public in uniform; today, it continues to serve the public—this time by the pint.
