Record Attendance at J Classic
On June 11, over 400 community members gathered at Losantiville Country Club for the JCC’s J Classic. The event, historically a golf event, now includes women’s and men’s tennis and pickleball. Other activities include Canasta and Mahj, which have also seen an increase in participation.
Key to the event’s success are Bob Brant, Brad Wagner, and Stephanie Friez. Brant’s longtime role has been pivotal to the J Classic as well as the program’s 30 vital volunteers. Until 1995, the J Classic was known as the Steve Adams Golf Classic. The event honored his participation in the community. The Steve Adams Golf Classic was a tribute to a friend to many.
The event “has the feel of a family reunion,” said Rick Lefton, Mayerson JCC Director of Development. The record turnout cemented the sentiment. “It was a great day,” he said. The day concluded with a dinner that brought the crowd together. The “Course of Caterers” featured plates from 20 different local companies. Organized by Ashley Kiefer, some of the best catering selections were showcased.
The picturesque Losantiville golf course is a proper setting for the J Classic, Lefton said. The staff at the club “help us put on a fun and successful event,” he said. Many of the supporters and participants of the J Classic are familiar with the club as they are either a member or former member.
The J Classic fulfills the mission of connecting people, Lefton said. The principal purpose is to build a sense of community. The event also “dovetails the mission” of providing a number of physical fitness options for those who are interested. Adding events to the J Classic has boosted interest.
